White vinyl — the default, and usually the right answer

Outdoor-rated 7-year vinyl with a permanent acrylic adhesive. It is opaque, so your colours print exactly as designed with no interference from whatever is underneath. Laminated versions shrug off water, sunlight, scratching and dishwashers.

Best for: logos, brand stickers, packaging, general purpose and bulk runs — anything where you want the artwork to look the way you drew it.

Think twice if: you want the surface underneath to show through. Use clear vinyl instead.

Clear vinyl — for when the surface should show through

A transparent film printed with a white ink base layer underneath your light-coloured areas, so pale colours still read instead of vanishing into the background. Applied to glass or a bottle it gives a floating, printed-directly-on effect.

Best for: window decals, drink bottles, phone cases, and anywhere you want the sticker to feel like part of the surface.

Think twice if: your design is mostly light or pastel. It can be done — the white base handles it — but the effect you are paying for is transparency, and a near-white design on clear ends up looking like a white sticker with extra steps.

Holographic — colour-shifting rainbow film

A diffraction film that throws a full-spectrum rainbow as it moves, also available in gold and chrome. Printed with a white base ink so your artwork stays legible on top of the shift, then finished with a scratch-resistant laminate.

Best for: artist prints, merch, limited editions and premium packaging — anything where you want people to pick it up and tilt it.

Think twice if: precise colour matching matters. The film shifts by design, so a brand colour will never sit perfectly still on it. Use white vinyl for anything colour-critical.

Glitter — chunky, textured sparkle

Glitter particles suspended in the base material and sealed under a laminate, so it sparkles without shedding. It catches light differently to holographic: less rainbow, more texture you can feel.

Best for: party stickers, packaging inserts, kids’ products and anything that should feel like a treat.

Think twice if: your design has fine detail or small text. The glitter texture sits over the top of everything and will fight anything delicate.

Finishes

Matte kills glare and feels soft. It photographs well and hides fingerprints — a good default for packaging and anything handled a lot.

Gloss lifts colour saturation and contrast. Choose it when you want the artwork to pop.

Laminate adds a protective layer over either finish, which is what makes a sticker genuinely weatherproof, dishwasher-safe and scratch-resistant. If the sticker is going outdoors or on a drink bottle, laminate it.
